Sketches for tattoo client- 'prayer and roses, something decrative' Clients words

Thinking of a composition that has different elements in different positions is hard. I am constantly thinking of what it would look like on the skin.
My client wanted a certain amount of faith and christian symbolism in a modern twist. Trying to link that theme with nature, flowers and fantasy is hard. They can look random and unnecessary. They need to combine and work off each other.

The main inspiration was The famous David Beckham's sleeve. David is famously know for his artwork. His style being one of the first to be seen. Its features clouds, christian teachings, cherubs, and verses that relate to his family. personal teachings.
This style of clouds has set off a trend for many young people today. A perfect setting for all things imaginary, it also looks amazing to fill gaps and join together aspects of tattoo design to create one big piece. Its commonly used on sleeves and other big pieces.

I used the rays to add some depth into the piece, otherwise i think its flat and too samey.

Client Feedback: ' It's great! i love the clouds and rays, the piece so far is perfect. i want this to be a big piece. I want more of this !!
carrying on the theme of fantsay i would love to see some cherubs and some lillys in there somewhere. use your imagenary and create a scene full of swallows, lillys maybe some script.'

Kat Von D
An icon to all females that have tattoos!

In this interview with kat she talks about her amazing tattoo shop called LA ink.
talking about the challenges that can happen in a studio with different artists and different talents.
Kat is a highly attractive woman. She talks about the idea of body art being an art form, and that women today are changing the perceptions of women with body art. Because its more common for women to have tattoo's and these women today are proving those people women can still be attractive in their unique art.
I think this runs throughout the tattoo world. People turn their nose up at people that have body art, as if they aren't serious, and are just rebels of society. But this is all starting to change! Tattoo's are more common and kids are growing up with tattoo's around them and appreciating them more, than people that were brought up without the knowledge of what a tattoo is and its purpose.

Silvia takes portraites to the next level. The attention to detail and the shading is out of this world. We look at a portraite that was painted as a masterpiece, a unique piece that represent the person in a way only a visual piece could.
But Silvia does exactly that and more, but her tools and techniques come from needles and ink.
Have a look at her work! truely inspiring.x

My Zine

I have to admit Zine's aren't what bring out what i am able to achieve. i disliked this brief from the moment i got it. But i guess that reflects on the outcome. i need to relate what "i like' to a zine. maybe this is a challenge i need to set myself to over cross this problem.
i will re work this zine and see where that takes me. For now this is it.

The Story

These images come from my journey from uni to my car. paths leading to other paths, down weird roads and coming across strange characters. this is what i experience everyday. twice a day. in the rain and in the sunshine. everyday is different. but yet this walk kills my life. its boring. each day i let my imagination run with little weird stories that i make up in my mind.

This day was the day i "lost her'

walking with my head down i was the investigator. looking at every detail.there she was. The girl with the Yellow hat. She walks the same way as i do, we walk at the same pace and look at the same things. But today she disappeared. What happened? where did she go? at the end of the path, only the hat was left ?

Create A Typeface

After coming to the conclusion in my previous post that the Photoshop experiment worked the best here it is.
The final version.

In each letter and number you will see more than one element of the Dyson within it. For it i collected several images of all the Dyson designs from the Internet and cut outs. I then put them all in photoshop and deconstructed each section breaking them down so they were easy to manipulate.
The hardest part was finding a feature for the curves in each letter. There only part i was able to use was the neck of the vacuum so it does appear several times. Otherwise each one is very different from the next.
A piece for my Portfolio to show my target audience.

I might re-think how i present them. on a white background helps you see the crisp outline and the technical parts in each letter and number. but i recon it would be interesting to take it off the screen and place it in the surroundings of the vacuum. maybe place the cut outs in a sequence on some rubbish ? on some mess or even alone the cord.
watch this space to see this come alive!!
Considering i am un-experienced in using photoshop, and i set this task to push my limits, i am proud of what i have manage to accomplish in just a week.
I hope you all can enjoy it visually.

Create a TYPEFACE

The new brief of creating your own type face based on photographs that we've taken.
Typeface, and typography are taking over the illustration world in my eyes. more modern illustrators are incorporating type into their illustration someone using typefaces an the actual illustration. so with this brief it will allow me as an illustrator to show my own typefaces.

i think its important to look at what illustrators and graphic designers are doing today with typeface to give me an idea of what i am competing with

Eleventy Handmade: folded paper typeface

with this typeface, its based around cut and folded cut outs of images and block colours, which is then extended using lines and curves. i like the contrast of the hard edges and the smooth line drawings.

Building block typeface

colour is another aspect that can bring a typeface alive.
Here's a different way in which a type face can be created. using solid abjects that can be easily transformed .

This blog has loads of experimental practise with typefaces .. have a look !
I particulary like this one because the detail they've gone into to transform the angle of perception on this typeface.

This piece of typography just goes to show you ave detailed a type face can be whilst still holding that important, significant structure that we recognised as a letter.

Experiments

On photoshop i picked a random object which happened to be a Dyson vacuum cleaner, and transformed it to create a structure of the alphabet. It took so long trying to manipulate each piece to make it look like each letter. Here is what it turned out like.

Dysons cam easily be recongised by the strong colours frequently feature in the design, as well as an unusual design compared to the traditional vacuums.

Creating a curve out of an object that has mainly strong straight structure parts, is what i found most tricky. But i was lucky enough that Dyson have many models of vacuum, that come in various shapes and sizes. This is a subject matter that truck me to be more interesting than i originally thought.

Using photoshop i was able to construct the whole Alphabet using single Dyson Machines to represent the original forms of the Alphabet.
The outcome of this was more visually appealing than looking at a straightforward Dyson. out of all my methods so far i think this one is more interesting to look at as well as slightly more complex.

Can You See What They Are ?

Carring on from my vacuum typeface, i started to create the type itself out of the physical object. Using the lead from the vacuum i created A-R. these images to me do what i planned out, but are visually interesting. They lack colour and texture. Although they do create negative space that maybe could be worked on to uplift them from a basic flat image.

Here's is another experiment i've done. This time including other aspect that are linked toward the dyson. The "cleaning' part. taking the idea of a mess on a carpet and creating the type from that. The type is clear and is bold. This method would also work with the number's 1-10 as and type can be selected out of the mess. But is this the best ?
